Bayamo ya no es la misma. Nació a la orilla de un río y acompañada de aborígenes. Luego la transformaron en villa un 5 de noviembre de 1513. A partir de ese momento sus pobladores se mezclaron, se juntó el español con el indio, más tarde llegó el negro y así surgió el bayamés. Esa tierra con nombre aruhaco y europeo creció; dio vida a figuras ilustres de Cuba. Allí nació el Padre de la Patria, el Himno Nacional y los fervientes deseos de libertad. Un día, la ciudad fue quemada por amor y tal vez por desesperación, pues era preferible verla en llamas que tomada por quienes no la merecían. A pesar de ello resurgió de las cenizas como el ave fénix y volvió a brillar.
