Roberto Smith de Castro es el nuevo Presidente del Instituto Cubano de Cine e Industrias Cinematográficas (ICAIC). Graduado de Psicología en la Universidad de La Habana, él mismo asegura sentirse “un hombre de cine”. A solicitud del propio Alfredo Guevara, desde noviembre de 1979 se vincula al ICAIC y al Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano, en su primera edición. En 1985 fue nombrado Subdirector de la Distribuidora Nacional de Películas y desde el 2002 es vicepresidente del Instituto. Un impresionante cañón de más de 750 kilómetros de largo y hasta 800 metros de profundidad fue descubierto por científicos de la Universidad de Bristol del Reino Unido, oculto millones de años bajo el hielo de Groenlandia. Según una investigación, este cañón tiene las características de los canales del meandro de un río. Fue descubierto cuando científicos que investigan el cambio climático elaboraban un mapa de la roca que forma Groenlandia.

Presidentes de Unasur debatirán sobre crisis siria

Los presidentes de los países miembros de la Unión de Naciones Suramericanas (Unasur) discutirán este viernes una resolución de 47 puntos que va desde la condena a un ataque a Siria hasta el fortalecimiento institucional del grupo. El secretario general de Unasur, Alí Rodríguez Araque, explicó que también se analizará la propuesta venezolana de reformar algunos estatutos del foro para dinamizarlo y evitar su burocratización.

El Nobel Seamus Heaney fallece en Dublín

Considerado el alma lírica de Irlanda, el poeta y dramaturgo Seamus Heaney, ganador del premio Nobel de Literatura en 1995, murió este viernes a los 74 años tras una corta enfermedad. En un comunicado, su familia confirmó el fallecimiento del escritor sin concretar cuál fue la dolencia que acabó con su vida esta mañana en un hospital de Dublín, ciudad en la que residía desde 1976.

El equipo cubano de boxeo que asiste aquí al campeonato panamericano de la disciplina debutó con la victoria de Yoandy Toirac en los 91 kgs, quien mostró inobjetable superioridad sobre el costarricense José Gaitán.
