El Senado de Estados Unidos rechazó con 52 votos a favor y 46 en contra una enmienda bipartidista que facilitaría el traslado de presos de la cárcel ilegal de Guantánamo a territorio estadounidense para su juicio, o a terceros países para su liberación. El Congreso descartó otra propuesta que habría paralizado cualquier transferencia de reos durante un año. La enmienda daba luz verde al traslado solo después de que la Administración entregara un plan detallado al Congreso sobre dónde se juzgarían los detenidos en el país.

Sumatra bajo las cenizas del volcán Sinabung

Más de 1.600 personas han tenido que ser evacuadas en torno al Monte Sinabung, en el norte de Sumatra (Indonesia) donde el volcán ha vuelto a entrar en erupción provocando una enorme nube de cenizas y humo que ha alcanzado 8 kilómetros de altitud. En Indonesia también se encuentra en erupción el volcán Merapi, en la isla de Java. Este volcán está considerado uno de los más peligrosos del mundo y en el año 2010 provocó la muerte de 350 personas.
