Cuba desarrolla medicamento para tratar hemorroides

Expertos cubanos desarrollaron un nuevo medicamento para combatir las crisis de hemorroides. El fármaco ya ha sido registrado en Cuba y en los venideros dos o tres años se convertirá en la terapia más eficaz para el control de episodios de trombosis hemorroidal. Tras terminar la fase de investigación clínica, este medicamento en forma de supositorio con estreptoquinasa ya ha sido registrado, explicaron los científicos del Centro de Ingeniería Genética y Biotecnología.

Médicos de Cuba salvan a más de 286 mil guatemaltecos

Más de 286 mil guatemaltecos fueron salvados por médicos de Cuba de 1998 a octubre último, según datos oficiales. Acorde con estadísticas de la Brigada Médica cubana en Guatemala, en ese mismo lapso los galenos de la isla caribeña atendieron a 35 millones 431 mil 805 pacientes. Gracias a la Operación Milagro, señala el informe, se operaron 122 mil 658 casos por diferentes patologías oftalmológicas.

Universidades de EE.UU. niegan matrícula a inventor de un detector de cáncer

Las mejores universidades de Estados Unidos rechazaron la solicitud de estudios de Jack Andraka, un joven de 16 años nacido en Maryland, que inventó un sensor para detectar el cáncer. Andraka envió 200 solicitudes a diferentes laboratorios, pero todos se negaron, excepto uno. Por eso hoy se dedica a desarrollar sus investigaciones sobre el cáncer en la Universidad Johns Hopkins de Baltimore.

Descubren volcán activo en la Antártida

Científicos han descubierto un nuevo volcán humeante a un kilómetro bajo el hielo de la Antártida occidental, y alertan de la posibilidad de que su calor aumente la tasa de pérdida de hielo de una de las principales corrientes del continente. Mohamed Hasán Asafarí, diputado del Parlamento de Irán, advirtió que Teherán abandonaría las conversaciones con el Sexteto si el Congreso estadounidense endurece las sanciones. El diario argentino Página 12 entrevista a René González, el único liberado de los Cinco cubanos encarcelados en EEUU después de un proceso preñado de irregularidades. Desde el Grupo de Trabajo sobre Detenciones Arbitrarias de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la ONU hasta Anmistía Internacional, dictaminaron que fue y es arbitraria la privación de la libertad de los cubanos antiterroristas. Venezuela y quizá América Latina y el Caribe no son los mismos después de Chávez. Nuestra región es la más desigual del mundo. Por ello es campo de cultivo de los movimientos sociales, que se articulan al margen de los partidos políticos y del Estado para lograr reivindicaciones que ni uno ni otros conceden. Chávez potenció la participación política y social mediante el impulso de la Democracia Participativa, y articuló movimientos sociales con Estado y partidos a través de las Misiones.
